Warsaw Screenings
May 21, 2008
Organized during the WIFF for the first time in 2000, the Warsaw Screenings present Polish films with English subtitles to selectors of major international film festivals. From the begiEdit Web Content Wizardnning this initiative has drawn a very positive response.
Attending guests have included representatives of the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Pusan, Mar del Plata, Rotterdam, Göteborg, Karlovy Vary, Moscow, Thessaloniki, Sarajevo, and many others. Thanks to the Warsaw Screenings and the Warsaw Film Foundation’s year-round information and promotion activity, many Polish films have been shown at leading film festivals. We have contributed to Polish cinema’s greatest festival successes of the past several years, to mention:
- Crows, dir. Dorota Kędzierzawska
- Playing from the Plate, dir. Jan Jakub Kolski
- Photographer, dir. Dariusz Jabłoński
- Hi, Tereska, dir. Robert Gliński
- Happy Man and Stranger, dir. Małgorzata Szumowska
- The Wedding, dir. Wojtek Smarzowski
- Edi and The Master, dir. Piotr Trzaskalski
- The Collector, dir. Feliks Falk
- Tricks, dir. Andrzej Jakimowski
The Warsaw Screenings are an event at which a select audience watches select Polish films. Since 2004 there has also been a summer edition of the Screenings, in late June/early July, for the selectors of festivals scheduled for the autumn.
Participation in the Warsaw Screenings is by invitation only.
