Audience Award was won by KONTROLL (CONTROL), directed by Nimród Antal, Hungary. The film had been bought by Kino Swiat for distribution in Poland. As a result about 90.000 viewers saw the film in Polish cinemas.
Films that participated in the “New Films, New Directors” Competition were evaluated by the international Jury consisting of directors: Fridrik Thor Fridriksson (Chairman), Mirjam Kubescha, Emily Young, Radivoje Andric and Lukasz Barczyk.
Grand Prix Nescafé and 5.000 Euro were awarded to the film SHAHRE ZIBA (BEAUTIFUL CITY), directed by Asghar Farhadi, Iran.
HBO Award for the Best Script was won by WESELE (THE WEDDING), written and directed by Wojtek Smarzowski, Poland.
Special Mention won IL DONO (THE GIFT), directed by Michelangelo Frammartino, Italy.
Opening Film: HOREM PÁDEM (UP AND DOWN), directed by Jan Hrebejk (European festival premiere).
Third Edition of German Panorama.
A record number of foreign guests visited the Festival. The following professional events took place during the Festival:
6th edition of Warsaw Screenings (Variety magazine published reviews on Polish films shown at the Festival).
MÓJ NIKIFOR (MY NIKIFOR), directed by Krzysztof Krauze was sold for distribution in Japan during Warsaw Screenings.
Official Board Meeting of the European Film Academy. CentEast Meeting – The Alliance of Central and Eastern European Film Festivals.
SCENE Insiders – workshop for professionals who co-operate with scripwriters.
Workshops for film journalists given by such world class professionals as Derek Malcolm, as well as journalists who write for Variety and Screen International.
Open workshops for film editors and everyone interested in film editing, organised by Polish Editors Association.
