Audience Award Winner: "Elling" by Petter Naess, Norway
The first edition of “New Films, New Directors” International Competition. Fourteen films were judged by the jury, which consisted of: Wojciech Marczewski (Chairman), Marek Bukowski, Krzysztof Czarkowski, Denijal Hasanović, Sławomir Fabicki, Grzegorz Łoszewski, Marcin Wrona.
Grand Prix Nescafé and 5,000 euro went to Polish film "Edi" (Eddie) by Piotr Trzaskalski. The film was produced by Piotr Dzięcioł of Opus Film. SPI is Polish distributor.
Three films got Special Mentions:
“The Orphan of Anyang“ by Wang Chao, China
"Bark!" by Kasia Adamik, USA
“Divoke vcely“ (Wild Bees) by Bohdan Slama, Czech Republic
The first edition of German Panorama takes place, with support of Export-Union of German Cinema and Goethe-Institut.
Student films from Katowice School are presented.
In December 2002 the Festival office moves to the new premises at Marszałkowska St.
