3-14.10.1996
cinemas: Skarpa, RONiK, Foksal
number of admissions: 40,000
Audience Award Winner: "Trainspotting" by Danny Boyle, UK
“Panna Nikt” (Miss Nobody) by Andrzej Wajda for the opening. On stage at the Skarpa Cinema appeared the Director and three Annas: Anna Wielgucka, Anna Mucha, and Anna Powierza.
For the first time the section of European films is named Europa Europa, in honour of Agnieszka Holland (whom we admire) and her film of the same title.
The guest of honour was Annie Girardot, who played in “Les Miserables” by Claude Lelouch.
Festival guests were Fridrik Thór Fridriksson, Jari Halonen and Jan Bucquoy, who, presenting his film, used a beer can in an un-conventional way.
“Self-Portrait With A Lover” by Radosław Piwowarski for the closing. Actress Kasia Figura, who plays the main role, showed up in a very daring dress.
