For the first time the majority of the budget comes from private sponsors (main sponsor is L&M cigarettes; other sponsors are DHL, VF Polska (Lee jeans) and IDV (Smirnoff vodka and J&B whisky).
The last “grand opening” at the Congress Hall with “Una pura formalita” by Giuseppe Tornatore.
The closing film is “Crows” by Dorota Kędzierzawska, which becomes a major hit at the international film festivals.
Festival guests are David Byrne (director, better known as leader of The Talking Heads), Unni Straume, Rafał Zieliński.
John Cartwright from the Films Section of The British Council, who made the last filmed interview with Jarman ("There We Are, John..." by Ken McMullen), wrote a personal reminiscence about Derek Jarman, who died in February 1994. John refused to accept payment for his text, explaining that as a government official he cannot be paid for other jobs. I wish this rule was introduced in our country...
